Itinerary Overview
Step into Rwanda’s legendary misty highlands for an adrenaline-charged day of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Hike through lush rainforest, conquer steep volcanic trails, and come face-to-face with a family of endangered mountain gorillas in their natural home. This is the kind of adventure that stays with you forever !
Itinerary Details
• 04:30 AM – Early Pickup in Kigali Your adventure begins before dawn with a private transfer from Kigali. Watch the sunrise paint Rwanda’s hills as you head toward the Virunga volcanoes.
• 07:00 AM – Briefing at Park Headquarters (Kinigi) Meet your expert rangers and get your trekking assignment. Receive tips on safety, trekking etiquette, and what to expect in the wild.
• 07:30 AM – Into the Rainforest ! Begin your guided gorilla trek through thick forests, bamboo groves, and volcanic slopes. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Every step builds anticipation !
• The Encounter – Up to 1 Hour with the Gorillas Once you find them, prepare for an awe-inspiring moment : silverbacks beating their chests, playful youngsters tumbling around, and mothers nurturing their young. Cameras ready but remember to simply breathe it in.
• Lunch at Musanze After the trek, enjoy a meal at a restaurant in Musanze, where you can share stories and photos from your unforgettable experience.
• Afternoon – Return to Kigali Relax on your drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening with lifelong memories etched into your heart.
Important Information
• Children below 15 years are not allowed to trek mountain gorillas.
• All participants must arrive no later than 7:00 AM for the mandatory briefing and group assignment.
• For those starting in Kigali, please be ready for pickup as early as 4:30 AM, depending on your location.
What to Wear & Bring
• Sturdy hiking boots or waterproof shoes
• Long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt (to protect from nettles and insects)
• Rain jacket or poncho (weather can change quickly)
• Reusable water bottle
• Walking stick (provided at the park or bring your own)
• Passport or ID card
