Step into the misty jungles of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park for an unforgettable primate safari. This 2-day adventure combines the gorilla trekking experience with a lively cultural immersion at the Gorilla Guardians Village and wraps up with a thrilling golden monkey trek. Day 1 : Gorilla Trekking & Gorilla Guardians Village
• 05:00 AM – Early Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park (Musanze) Begin your journey with a scenic 2.5-hour drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills, coffee plantations, and vibrant local markets.
• 07:00 AM – Arrival & Trek Briefing at Kinigi Meet your park guides, receive a briefing, and get assigned to a gorilla family group. Excitement builds as you prepare to enter the heart of the jungle.
• 08:30 AM – Gorilla Trekking Adventure Step into the dense bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park, following trails of crushed leaves, nests, and fresh prints. The trek can last 1–4 hours depending on the gorilla family’s location an adventurous climb through tangled vegetation, mist, and high-altitude terrain. The moment you lock eyes with a giant silverback or watch playful juveniles tumble through the trees, you will feel a rush like no other. Spending a full hour in their presence gives you a rare, intimate connection with the world’s most powerful gentle primates.
• 12:30 PM – Return & Lunch Enjoy a hot lunch at a restaurant in Musanze, reflecting on your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla encounter.
• 03:00 PM – Cultural Experience at Gorilla Guardians Village (Iby’Iwacu) Step into the world of Rwanda’s traditions at this vibrant cultural village. Take part in warrior dances, try your hand at archery, learn ancient hunting techniques, and hear stories from former poachers who are now passionate conservationists. This visit turns culture into adventure you won’t just watch but join in, dancing, drumming, and learning survival skills that once defined life near the forest.
• Evening – Overnight Stay in Kinigi Relax at your lodge with views of the mist-covered volcanoes.
Day 2 : Golden Monkey Trek & Return to Kigali
• 06:00 AM – Early Breakfast & Transfer to Park Set off for another primate adventure, this time chasing golden monkeys, the park’s most playful primate.
• 07:00 AM – Golden Monkey Trekking Trek into the bamboo forest, where troops of golden monkeys leap and swing through the trees in dazzling displays. Unlike gorillas, these monkeys move in lively groups of up to 100, creating a fast-paced and exhilarating tracking experience. Watching their curious eyes peek at you from the branches or photographing their bright golden coats as they dart around creates a more energetic and light-hearted contrast to the intense gorilla trek.
• 11:00 AM – End Trek & Refresh Return from the forest, freshen up, and enjoy a hearty early lunch.
• 12:30 PM – Drive Back to Kigali Depart Musanze with scenic views of the volcanoes and the Land of a Thousand Hills.
• 03:00 PM – Arrival in Kigali Drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport.
